  • Palm Beach Circuit Judge Cymonie Rowe, B.S.C. ’94, was recognized with the “2018 Florida Bar Judge of the Year” award at the 2018 Florida Bar Annual Convention. The award was presented on June 14 during the Florida Bar Judicial Luncheon by Michael Higer, Florida Bar president. The convention was held June 13-15 in Orlando, FL and is an annual event hosted by the Florida Bar for Bar members and their families.

  • The University of Miami School of Communication is mourning the loss of its alumnus Mike McCormick, B.S.C. ’04, who passed away on Monday while covering extreme weather in North Carolina for WYFF News4. McCormick and photojournalist Aaron Smeltzer both died when a tree fell on their news van.

    McCormick joined WYFF News4 in 2007 as a reporter. Before that he worked in Arkansas at KHBS/KHOG.

  • UM Family Night with the Miami Marlins featured a day at the ballpark with activities for faculty and staff, and a special pregame on-field presentation from The Miami Marlins Community Foundation Suzanne Rayson Scholarship Fund to two School of Communication students. 

  • For the first time since the inception of the Lafayette Debates, a team composed of only women clinched the victory. On April 8, Leandra Lopez and Julia Lynch, top debaters representing the University of Miami, defeated the team from France’s École de Guerre to win the annual debate tournament held at the French Embassy in Washington D.C. As tournament champions, Lopez and Lynch, were awarded a Young Ambassadors study tour of Paris sponsored by the French Embassy.
