  • Palm Beach Circuit Judge Cymonie Rowe, B.S.C. ’94, was recognized with the “2018 Florida Bar Judge of the Year” award at the 2018 Florida Bar Annual Convention. The award was presented on June 14 during the Florida Bar Judicial Luncheon by Michael Higer, Florida Bar president. The convention was held June 13-15 in Orlando, FL and is an annual event hosted by the Florida Bar for Bar members and their families.

  • Although he may be better known as the voice of the The Band of the Hour, University of Miami School of Communication alumnus Jason Mizrachi stopped by the campus in early December to discuss digital TV sales and dispense valuable career advice to members of the Media Management Association. Mizrachi has done it all, working in sales and marketing for over 22 years.

  • University of Miami School of Communication is hosting a screening of the social documentary Liberty Square: Power, History, and Race in Miami, on Tuesday, March 21 at 6:30 p.m. The screening takes place during Associate Professor Sigman Splichal’s Seminar in News Ethics and Problems class. It will be followed by a Q&A panel featuring the producer of the film, alumnus Dr. Moses Shumow, Ph.D.

  • University of Miami School of Communication alumnus Noah DeBonis, B.A. ’10, M.F.A. ’13, has embarked on a journey to film the reintegration process of former Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) guerrillas into Colombian society. The country had the opportunity to end its civil war, which has lasted more than five decades, by signing a peace treaty with the FARC guerrillas.

  • Erica Larence, a Motion Pictures major and member of the Class of 2013, recently published a book, Caine and Mabel. The book is about a girl who adopts a rescue dog after her best friend moves away. Larence said that the idea for the book came from her rescue dog, Caine, who is named after the Miami Hurricanes.

    Larence wrote the book in January of 2015 and then edited it for about a month. In March, she found Vi Pham, the illustrator of the book.
